Well, it's simple: because they ARE worth 'alot.' Let's zoom back in time to the beta days, when the first Founder's Hats were sold. They were very simple and a pure yellow color, sold in Jam Mart Clothing at a very cheap price.

Then, as beta came to a close, they disappeared from stores. Now they're very rare and highly sought-after, being one of a few beta items not to have been released again. They're worth about a few spikes, in my opinion, as they came out a bit before spikes did.

Now, here's an odd glitch that I was experiencing earlier:
